What are Property Mappings for?

Property mappings define how the property should look like in different systems, like in Revit or IFC.

  1. They cover built-in properties, e.g. IFC schema properties & attributes and Revit built-in parameters

  2. They cover system specific property settings for custom properties, like Revit parameter settings

  3. They can be used to map on existing internal parameters e.g. in Revit.

Mapping Types on LastBIM

Since LastBIM 3.0 (10/2026) there are four mapping types to manage different kind of property definitions:

Example Setups with Mappings

Here, we want to show you, how we intended the mappings to be used.

1. Example: Multiple Revit mappings

Client and multiple planning offices work together on one project, all using LastBIM.

The client / BIM management uses LastBIM to manage and provide the information requirements. He wants to get the IFC files with his property definitions in the end.

Multiple planning offices are using the Revit plugin to attribute and validate their BIM models. Both already have their internal standard with their own shared parameters. Instead of creating each parameter for the client newly, they want to continue using their own shared parameters where they match and only translate those in the IFC export to the required property definition of the client.

Solution:

Each planning office manages his own Revit mapping to map the client’s properties to his own internal shared parameters or to built-in parameters that they want to use instead.

2. Example: Catalog mappings

The planning office uses LastBIM to manage their internal standard with all Revit parameter settings.

In a new project, there is another catalog with the information requirements from the client - either imported from Excel by the planner himself, or provided directly by the client via LastBIM. The planner wants to use his own internal shared parameters in Revit and map them to the client’s properties.

Solution:

Instead of creating all the Revit mappings again in the catalog of the project, the planner can create a catalog mapping within the project to reference the properties from the catalog in his own LastBIM standard.

3. Example: Custom mappings

The client uses LastBIM to manage his information requirements. Next to the property definition for the IFC models he also wants to manage how the parameters are mapped to his SAP. With that and the Excel export from LastBIM he can then setup his workflows to translate the IFC models for SAP.

Solution:

He creates a custom property mapping and custom fields for the SAP property name, data type and group.
